Bloggers Can Write Whatever they Want as long as…
Last Friday I came across a blog post that made me cringe… Was it because of it’s simillarities with my earlier post: Internet = Freedom? , or not?
And yes, it is very easy to write libelous things about people online, especially while being behind an anonymously set up blog. This does not make it correct however. And because of it – I think it was OK that Liskula Cohen won the lawsuit against Google, and learned the identity of the anonimous blogger.
Do you agree with the statement that bloggers can write whatever they want as long as they are transparent and declare who they are? My personal opinion in such a situation is that yes, if someone wishes to call someone else “names”, than the writer should let it be known who they are. If not, after the precedent created by Liskula Cohen, there is a big chance that the person that has been written about could win in such a lawsuit, and the anonymous writer will be in trouble – to say the least…
There is always the other side of the coin of course, but today is not the day to go deeper in the subject…

I think it”s okay to say whatever you”d like, as long as you can back it up with facts. If what you”re saying is untrue, then I”d think it”s expected that you apologize and concede that you were wrong. Of course opinions, stated as opinions, are fair game. Follow the rules of any published media and I”d think that you”d be good to go. Just my two halfpennies….

Say what you want as long as it isn”t a hate crime and you have the facts to back it up, as for personal mean attacks, shows poorly on the person making the remarks and I believe in Karma so they”ll get theirs.

Tatiana the best thing about blogging is to be positive and write about good things in life. If you someone wants to call names and stay anonymous, that tells me that they have something to hide too. You are right, there are always two sides to the story. Thanks for sharing your thoughts again. Anna

Though I may be a noob in the blogosphere, I agree totally with you on transparency. I sometimes do find some bloggers a tad insincere when they hide behind anonymity. My opinion .. if you dare to speak out, then dare to take responsibility … if not, don”t speak at all.

Freedom of speech. Who cares who said it? The thing I like about anonymity is that people tend to speak out their minds more without holding back. Enhances freedom of speech in my opinion. Though it does show balls to criticize harshly and be transparent. More respect to the people who do that, but I think speaking your mind through anonymity is fine. ..unless, like Bob said, its like hate speech.. like that stupid KKK website..
